AUTOMOTIVENES
WP6 - SMall project AUTOMOTIVENES

The project idea came after the implementation of WP3 and effective creation of AUTOCLUSTERS network as part of WP7. It became obvious that there are many EU funded excellent projects in the field of providing innovative solutions for sustainable and safe automotive transportation, excellent partnership during those projects implementation and at the same time most of the project does not succeed to disseminate the results after the termination of the project. In many projects students are involved as junior researchers but few of them are given opportunity to shoe their best via competitions or make presentations during events.
Knowing that each partner from AUTOCLUSTERS itself is a network or belongs to a network lead us to the idea to eneralge our project network and provide a meeting place for the researchers, industry, university professors, students, local authorities and funding bodies to present, discuss and acknowledge the excellence in the  sustainable and safe automotive transportation oriented projects.

Problem or challenge to be addressed
Our project is oriented on automotive industry what is a great challenge for creating innovative automotive networks between SEE and Western countries and create stronger EU region against competitors from other world regions in area R&D (such as USA, Japan, China and other Asian emerging countries).  The workshop and study visit will enable the networking process while disseminating the AUTOCLUSTERS achievements esp. in the recent partnerships with the EAI. The other challenge is bringing students on board for presenting their creative ideas and giving them opportunity to have practical experience in companies (internship) on real cases that companies, R&D centers have to deal with, as well as offer them cooperation with external experts to create innovative ideas in part - Green World for FP7 Proposals.  Students ideas will strictly oriented to the innovation in field of automotive industry.

Objectives of the project
The purpose of the workshop is to bring attendees up-to-date with examples of successful interregional and inter-sectoral partnerships and EU funding opportunities supporting cooperation and innovation in the automotive sector in South-East Europe.  The program will include presentations showing important technical, economic and social advantages of using new technologies transfer of knowledge and good practices from European projects to industry and from one region to another.  This international workshop should be of interest to those associated with the automotive industry, design and materials engineers, industry and private practice, engineering faculty and students, researchers and EU and regional policy makers.
The program will cover EU-funded projects achievements, clustering case histories from EU countries, as well as the latest initiatives in boosting the innovation in Europe. Handout materials will be provided.

Methodological approach
Methodological approach is based on few simple steps:  Creating committeses to work on workshop preparation, identifying external experts and other relevant projects to be involved;launching students competition with clear selection criteria; workshop(with award ceremony and presentations) and study visit implementation in March 2011; evaluation of the implementation with reccommendations and conclusions; further Dissemination of results and increasing consumer awareness by print media, electronic media and conferences (or seminars),  Planning next procedures and activities (sustainability effect).

Transnational approach
Transnational approach is ensured by participation of 6 project partners from 5 SEE countries ( Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy) on implementation of project activities. Solving of the project is based on close cooperation between project partners. In addition, the implementation of the main activity- workshop, will be done in close collaboration with TIS Innovation Park, Bolzano, Italy and EAI,Belgium in order to have larger geographycal coverage and bringing more projects and institutions to our network.
Transnationality/transregionality is based on harmonised approach of all involved project partners and exchange of experiences. We hope that this approach will reinforce our common proceduress and project partner´s disscusion about e-mobility in SEE. We would like to contribute to provide opportunity and meeting place of as many as possible actors from the automotive industry areas- manufacturing, design, R&D,education,professional/vocational training,material science, ergonomy, policy makers in order to  work towards common problem solving by presenting innovative solutions(projects, products, services, prototypes, local.regional sustainable development plans etc.).

Expected results
Outputs- Workshop papers and posters; Award for the best sudents projects; internships for the best student(s);
Results- increased awareness about the potential of SEE area researchers and companies in the field of automotive sector; Improved skills and knowledge of the selected students due to the internship programme; Partnerships for FP7 proposals due to the study visit and partnership event at TIS Innovation Park, Bolzano, Italy.

Target groups
We will target  Researchers, engineers, students, industrial partners, government delegates and all relevant stakeholders from SEE area in order to  invite them  to discuss and exchange ideas about the future and viability of the transportation and automotive industry domain.

Innovative character
The main innovative aspect of the workshop is the way it will support students creativity and professional development by launching students competition: The best 3 proposals will have time for presentation during ISVCS 2011 conference, The  best 5 proposals will be presented with poster. Thestudents who are authors of the top 3 proposals will also receive award and will have the opportunity to visit a relevant host institution and get involed in real project implementation for 1 month. Topics of interest (include but are not limited to):
Low Carbon economy: Automotive industry aspect
- Innovation as a key competitiveness factor
- Investment in employees' skill enhancement
- Continuing improvements in productivity
- Effective change management

Synergies with other policies, programmes and projects
European strategy on clean and energy efficient vehicles (EC document, 2010); R&D Priorities for the Greening of Vehicles and Road Transport (EUCAR document, 2009); European Green Cars Initiative - Towards an electric future? (EC document, DG for Research, 2010)
Project AutoNet Central Europe Programme; Leonardo da Vinci projects in LLL; FP7 projects on intelligent cars and ITS.

Explanation of external experts and services activities
Involvement of external experts will be very important  to shape better the workshop committees, paper reviwing, shaping the selection criteria for students competition, publishing the workshop book and services related to workshop logistics- venue, cattering, publicity.
External experts will be invited as speakers as well. Extrenal experts will help in assessing the event after its complition as well as alalysing and evaluating the students internship results and providing recommendations.

Situation after implementation of the project: (Sustainability of the project after its implementation – connection with FP7 proposals)
After the project due to connection between partners and awarded students we expect:
1. Involving young researchers into industry problems solving and support to youth innovation and / or entrepreneurship;
2. Drafting  a programme for students exchange and internships in automotive industry companies and/or relevant university faculties’ and research centers;
3. The study visit and partnership event in ICCS will facilitate the exchange of ideas and forming partnerships for creating proposals for FP7

Our activities will have connection to preparing 3 main points: 1. Preparation of FP7 proposals, 2. Connection to national and regional with initiatives for cooperation and development of programs for sustainable mobility; 3. Enlarging our network and its geographical coverage.  It could help creating new types of cooperation, support of innovation activities, esp.in terms of supporting students’ creativity, networking and other.

Justification of contribution to the overall objective of small-projects in AUTOCLUSTERS project: Explanation of students competition and internship through small-project implementation
The main innovative products is the students award and the further sustainability of the network by providing opportunity for the interested organizations or experts to work together as part of the EAI Transportation SIB. We will promote the achievements of young researchers through the students competition and will elaborate a model for further support and carrier development through the award and internship for the best in the competition.
