The PhD Students Competition 2011 and the final Event in Trento

One of the pilot actions of the AUTOCLUSTERS project is the students’ competition. The PhD Students Competition 2011 have been organized within the Small Project AUTOMOTIVENES (“Automotive Networks Workshop at AUTOCLUSTERS Annual Event, February, Italy and students competition”). This task involved the following project partners: CREATE-NET Italy, STU-MTF Slovakia, TU Iasi Romania, TU Gabrovo Bulgaria, AC Slovenia, Comunimprese Italy. The objectives of this competition were:

  • improve networking and the development of new ideas between partners by bringing students on board;
  • test the feasibility for continuation with a pilot action.

The competition call has been published the 31st of May 2011 on the ACSEE/EAI portal, on the ACSEE website and on specific countries portals. The Ph.D. COMPETITION 2011 was addressed to postgraduate students in a Ph.D. program belonging to the universities associated with project partners. The competition gave the students an opportunity to showcase their work to experts within the field of “Innovation in the automotive sector”. Students were asked to submit on ASSYST a paper and a poster working on provided templates by the 30th of September. Notification date for winners in the specific countries was the 11th of October. Prizes were the followings:

  • announced and poster published online on the ACSEE/EAI portal;
  • paper published in the journal "Managers Forum";
  • poster displayed and work presented during the final international event;
  • present their work at an event

The competition received application by 17 participants. Countries-specific evaluation commissions - composed by Internal and External Experts - elected four winners (unfortunately no applications arrived from the ICT-focused University of Trento):

  • (Slovenia) Miha Pevec, “Thermal and Cooling Analysis of a Passenger Car Front Brake Disc”
  • (Slovakia) Martin Beluski and Marian Hodulik, “Optimization of Material Flow. Innovation in the Automotive Sector”
  • (Romania) Sticea Daniel, “Bidirectional DC-DC Converter for Energy Sources Interface on Hybrid Electric Vehicles”
  • (Bulgaria) Krasimir Krustev, "Conceptual Model of Automated Battery Exchange System with Using of 3D Scanning"

The 17th of November 2011 the event “Ph.D. Students Competition on Innovation in the Automotive Sector – the WINNERS day” brought together winners, project partners and external experts in the Hotel Villa Madruzzo, Trento (Italy). The students’ and experts’ speeches ended with the presentation of the renewed ASCEE portal operated by EAI, which will increase the opportunities for future joined activities and networking.
